The following explanatory
statement was written by Stuart Michell to outline his objectives
in designing these excellent kits.....
RESONANCE CONTROL IN TURNTABLES
Resonance Control - These are the two words that best describe
the theory behind our Turntable Enhancement Kits.
Ever since the introduction of the first suspended sub-chassis
turntable many years ago, the main aim of the turntable designer
has been isolation from external factors such as acoustic vibration
(airborne sound waves) and structural vibration (footfall etc).
It is our view that not enough attention
has been paid to the resonance or noise generated within the
system.
This is far more important - especially these days when most people
use a properly designed support to isolate the deck. The primary
objective must be to lower the noise floor. The
lower the noise floor, the more information that can be retrieved.
The Enhancement Kits contain various components
tailored to the specific turntable, and all designed to lower the
noise generated by the motor and the main bearing, together with
that picked up acoustically by the platter.
We have sold well over 200 Thorens, Rega and Linn Enhancement kits
to date - the customer feedback has been phenomenal - and we look
forward to the forthcoming reviews in Hi-Fi Choice and Hi-Fi Plus.
