"Cleaners that touch the LP can cause damage by flatting the lands, the delicate area that separates the grooves, distorting the information locked in the grooves.

Dirty/crusty pickup tubes will damage the lands. The inrush of air developed by a vacuum cleaner can dry an amount of the cleaning agent before it is removed, leaving a residue behind.
